BARKERS' POLICIES

CANCELLATION POLICY

When you book your appointment, you are holding a space on our calendar that is no longer available to our other clients.

 

  • Please understand that appointment times are limited. If you must cancel your appointment, we respectfully request 48 hours notice.

  • If you are more than 10 minutes late to your appointment, we may not be able to accommodate you.

  • If you must cancel your appointment, it may take 1-2 weeks to reschedule, we are usually booked 1-2 weeks out, and we do maintain a waiting list.

  • Large dogs, multiple dogs or any appointment that requires more than 2 hours WILL require a non-refundable deposit of 50% when booking. This deposit will be put towards the final balance. The deposit will NOT be refunded if you fail to cancel your appointment with at least 48 hours notice.

We understand that life happens. However, frequent no-shows or cancellations may result in an invoice of 50% of the missed appointment.

EXPRESS GROOMING CONCEPT

Barkers primarily focuses on the Express Grooming Concept. We strive to provide a calm environment for dogs. We do this by grooming each dog straight through to limit the time your dog has to be away from home. Because of the convenience of our operations and our expertise, our prices tend to be higher than neighboring grooming shops. 

Barkers understands that some people need to use us as a doggie daycare facility while they are working. We have a specific drop off time for those clients and we complete those grooms at the end of the day. The is no extra charge for daycare. Your dog will be able to use the restroom and have access to a water bowl. Unfortunately, those pets will have to be kenneled for the majority of the day to ensure the safety of the others.

*For everyone's safety, we do not encourage pet owners to remain present during the appointment.

PICKUP & DROP OFF

We ask that everyone arrives at the time of their appointment. Arriving early or late may interfere with someone else's appointment. You will receive a call 15 minutes prior to completion of the appointment. We expect everyone to pick up promptly unless you are opting in for end of day pick up.

VACCINATIONS & HEALTH

We require all pets to be up-to-date on rabies, canine parvovirus and distemper vaccinations starting at 6 months of age. If you are unable to obtain a physical copy of vaccination records, we can contact your vet.

We ask that any pre-existing health conditions are disclosed to us so we can ensure the proper care of your pet.

FLEAS & TICKS

  • If you are aware that your dog has fleas and/or ticks, you must make it known to your groomer prior to your appointment

  • We use high quality shampoos that kill fleas and ticks on contact

  • We do not supply flea and tick preventatives

  • If fleas and/or ticks are discovered, you will be subject to our Flea/Tick removal charge depending on the severity.

EAR PLUCKING & ANAL GLANDS

​We pluck ear hair and express anal glands PER REQUEST ONLY. Unnecessarily performing these procedures can cause irritation and infections. Anal glands are naturally expressed when your dog uses the restroom to provide a natural lubricant. Over expression may cause the glands not to function properly.

*Barkers is not responsible for any irritation/infections caused by these procedures. Owner assumes all risks associated with ear plucking and anal gland expression.

MATTED COATS

Our approach to safely removing matted fur:

Upon initial assessment, your groomer will determine the condition of your dog's coat. If minimal matting is present, we have the tools and expertise to comfortably remove the mats. If your dog is determined to have severe matting, it is our policy to shave the whole coat. Shaving is the only way to remove a pelt safely, without causing any pain. 

Part of the Barkers Philosophy is to educate dog owners on coat maintenance. Matting can cause a variety of health issues including but not limited to:

  • Prevention of temperature regulation

  • Skin irritation & infections

  • Masking parasites such as fleas, ticks, scabies, hookworm ect. ​​

 

A de-matting fee will be applied to the final grooming price depending on severity.

*DISCLOSURE*

Barkers is not responsible for any clipper irritation, nicks, or self inflicted wounds (ie: hematomas) caused by shaving a matted coat. It is the owners responsibility to prevent matting and care for the dog's coat between grooming appointments.
